Chizor Vasquez
Welcome
Chizor Vasquez (MSW, RSW)
Registered Social Worker (BC & Ontario)
Accepting new individual, couples, youth (12+), and family clients from BC and Ontario!
is Chizor is a warm, compassionate Registered Social Worker with over 8 years of experience counselling adults, children, couples, and families. Chizor’s areas of interest focus on supporting individuals navigating maternal mental health concerns (mental health in pregnancy and postpartum; birth trauma; loss; relationship concerns; and reproductive challenges), relationship issues, exploring clients’ attachment styles, understanding and developing racial and cultural identities, and supporting clients in processing life transitions.
Chizor has completed additional professional training in perinatal mental health and mood disorders, and has a special interest in supporting BIPOC individuals with maternal mental health (including pregnancy and postpartum depression and anxiety, trauma, loss, and adjustment concerns) and reproductive challenges.
Chizor is a Registered Social Worker in good professional standing with both the BC College of Social Workers (BCCSW) and the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). This means that she holds a Master’s degree in Social Work and has completed the clinical training and supervisory experiences necessary to practice clinical counselling with this designation in BC and Ontario.
Areas of specialty:
Maternal Mental Health: Whether you’re having difficulty conceiving, grieving a loss, struggling in pregnancy, or having a hard time postpartum or post-adoption, Chizor is here to support you. Chizor is passionate about supporting clients through the challenges of this season of life and has advanced training in maternal and perinatal mental health.
Parents: Chizor particularly enjoys working with parents and assisting them in navigating the sometimes overwhelming challenges that come with raising children. Whether it’s providing guidance on effective parenting strategies, addressing behavioural issues, or fostering healthy communication within the family, supporting parents through the various stages of childhood brings Chizor an immense sense of fulfillment.
BIPOC Groups: Chizor has a strong affinity for collaborating with diverse communities, including Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) groups. It is both an honour and a privilege to work with individuals from different cultural backgrounds, understanding their unique perspectives, and helping them overcome specific challenges they may face. By fostering inclusivity and cultural competence, Chizor aims to create a safe and supportive environment for BIPOC individuals to explore their concerns and achieve personal growth.
Immigrant Issues: Assisting individuals navigating the complexities of immigration and settlement is an area Chizor deeply appreciates. Helping immigrants adapt to new environments, cope with cultural adjustments, and address the emotional challenges that arise during such transitions is a rewarding experience. By offering guidance and a compassionate ear, Chizor aims to empower immigrants to overcome obstacles and thrive in their new lives.
Life Transitions: Life transitions, such as career changes, relationship shifts, or retirement, can be both exciting and challenging. Chizor finds it fulfilling to support individuals during these pivotal moments, offering guidance, coping strategies, and a safe space for exploration. Guiding clients through transitions allows them to gain clarity, build resilience, and embrace new opportunities.
Parent-Teen Conflict: As a therapist, Chizor appreciates the opportunity to facilitate communication and understanding between parents and teenagers. Resolving conflicts, improving relationships, and fostering effective communication are crucial aspects of Chizor’s work. By creating a supportive environment for open dialogue, Chizor helps to bridge the generation gap and assist families in finding common ground.
