Reproductive Challenges & Loss
Reproductive Challenges & Pregnancy Loss
This was never supposed to be your story. You never imagined that you would become a part of the 1 in 8 couples who encounter challenges in conceiving a baby, or the countless others who experience a pregnancy loss. For someone who hasn’t experienced the agony of fertility challenges or perinatal loss, it’s difficult to fully comprehend the toll it takes: the rollercoaster of emotions each month; the grief over dreams changed or unrealized; the heartbreak over others’ pregnancy announcements; the sense of disconnection from others in your life; the torturous waiting periods; or the emotional and financial cost of the invasive, painful medical procedures.
Reproductive challenges and pregnancy loss are some of the hardest things a person and couple can endure. Whether you‘re just starting out on your fertility journey, are awaiting a diagnosis and treatment plan, or are in the midst of treatment, you don’t have to carry it alone.
We can help you navigate this incredibly challenging time.
What began as a result of Jennifer’s past struggles with fertility challenges, pregnancy loss, and reproductive medicine (including IUI and IVF), Sage Mental Health & Maternal Wellness has grown into a team of counsellors who have a special interest in helping prospective, expecting, and new parents cope with the mental health demands of infertility, loss, pregnancy, postpartum, and parenthood. It is our passion and privilege to support prospective and current mothers/birth-givers and their families cope with the stressors and demands of this season of their lives.
To better support our clients who are going through their own perinatal grieving process, Jennifer has completed advanced training in reproductive challenges and perinatal loss. She also holds a Compassionate Bereavement Care Certification through the MISS Foundation.
Our team of compassionate counsellors are here to support you wherever you are at with your reproductive journey, and if you are experiencing a perinatal loss, including:
- Difficulties conceiving;
- Navigating care at fertility clinics;
- Unsuccessful IUI or IVF cycles;
- Ectopic pregnancy;
- Molar pregnancy;
- Miscarriage (pregnancy loss <20 weeks);
- Recurrent pregnancy loss (2 or more losses);
- Elective abortion;
- Selective reduction and multi-fetal reduction;
- Stillbirth (pregnancy loss >20 weeks);
- Termination for medical reasons;
- Neonatal and infant death.

In addition to formal training, our counsellors have completed advanced trainings in treating perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (including postpartum depression and anxiety); Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for perinatal mood & anxiety disorders; Cognitive Processing Therapy for birth and reproductive trauma; perinatal-specialized EMDR; and training in perinatal loss.
In addition, Jennifer holds a certification in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C) through Postpartum Support International, and a certification in Compassionate Bereavement Care through the MISS Foundation.
